REAL AMERICA

christ, i never thought i'd wind up here
in real america
always thought that i would be
somewhere hangin' on broadway or something
always picture lots of lights
wads of money and all that other #@&%
never thought that i'd be breaking my back
just tryin' to shovel it

**but i'm nere
stop the presses 'cuz i'm home
pay the light bill and reconnect the phone
get real, pick up the pieces if you can
look around you 'cuz i'm a real american

in the middle of a backwoods town
i hear a piece of me
there's no way to get around all the pitfalls
of the industry
i know a woman in a low lit room
she's full of honesty
can't believe that she was makin' it big
through slanted offerings

**

and johnny wants to buy some land
he went to the bank and they don't understand
jenny broke her %$& @$#% leg
and couldn't pay
that's why it healed up that way
